Hearts fans to pay Scottish Cup Final tribute to tragic dad of three at game with Celtic

Fans are to pay a Scottish Cup Final tribute to a Hearts supporter who died at the age of 39.

Dad-of-three Alex Currie passed away after having a massive stroke.

On Saturday, fans will applaud the life-long Jambo in the 39th minute of the match against Celtic at Hampden.

Alex’s son Max, 12, will be there to wave a special flag in his dad’s honour.

Alex – nicknamed Skippy – was an assistant registrar in Edinburgh. He was also a football coach at local amateur and youth levels.

Friend Ian Liddle said: “We hope this will be a fitting tribute to Alex, who was a true gentleman and known to so many people through football and his work as a registrar.

“His passing at just 39 has come as a real shock

“We want to ask all fans at the game to show their respect with a minute’s applause.”

The Cup Final tribute has the blessing of Alex’s wife Gail, 38, Max and daughters Neve, 16, and Hana, 11.

Alex, from Edinburgh, was watching Max playing football for youth side North Merchiston Blacks on April 30 when he fell ill. He died two days later.

After his death, brave Max took to the field again for his club, scoring a goal and taking his strip off to reveal a T-shirt that read: “This one is for you Dad”.
