Hearts face nervy suspension wait over Cochrane red card in friendly brawl

Hearts face an anxious wait to find out whether Alex Cochrane will land a Scottish FA suspension following the defender's red card in Sunday’s abandoned clash with UD Almeria.

The ‘friendly’ with the La Liga outfit in the Costa del Sol was cut short before the interval after a mass melee involving around 60 players and staff from both sides.

The already ill-tempered affair exploded when Cochrane appeared to kick out at the ankles of Alejandro Pozo after the winger had passed the ball.

Almeria defender Rodrigo Ely raced in to back up his team-mate and sent Cochrane sprawling with what manager Robbie Neilson described as a ‘forearm smash’.

Ely was also sent-off and Neilson opted to remove his team from the pitch to avoid injuries in a powder-keg atmosphere.

Cochrane will be hit with a two-game ban - missing the matches with Kilmarnock and Dundee United - should the Spanish referee, Javier Sánchez Carreras from Córdoba, report his dismissal to the SFA via the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

The SFA have confirmed they are awaiting any communication from their Spanish counterparts over the unsavoury incident.
