Hearts should be “patting themselves on the back” for the business done in the transfer window.
That’s according to Derek McInnes, who praised Robbie Neilson and sporting director Joe Savage for the summer upgrade of the Tynecastle squad.
Six new players arrived in Gorgie with a deal for former Rangers man Barrie McKay also in the pipeline.
Hearts insisted they were focusing on quality over quantity and an unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season suggests they’ve done exactly that.
The Jambos are joint top with city rivals Hibs ahead of next Sunday’s mouthwatering Edinburgh derby clash.
And McInnes singled out Benin Baningime in particular.
The midfielder was signed from Everton on a three-year deal and has barely put a foot wrong in maroon, which suggestion already being made that he could be worth a lot of money to the club in the future.
McInnes told the Daily Mail: “Hearts have also had a good transfer window and will be quietly patting themselves on the back. Getting Beni Baningime from Everton has been an especially impressive piece of business.
“He went straight into the team for that first league game against Celtic and has hardly put a foot wrong. Robbie Neilson has not made a raft of signings but, on the face of it, he has added players who will improve the starting XI.”
