Hearts defender Craig Halkett ruled out for the season after cruciate injury

Craig Halkett has been ruled out for the rest of the season after a cruciate injury.

The Hearts defender will be sidelined until next season after the nasty injury he sustained on Christmas Eve.

Halkett, 27, was forced off within the first five minutes of the 2-2 draw against Dundee United.

And a scan after the injury revealed cruciate damage which has ruled out any return this term.

Halkett was in attendance at Tynecastle for the derby win over Hibs as he appeared at the ground with crutches.

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson told the club website: “It’s obviously very disappointing news to lose Craig’s services for the remainder of the season.

“We’re gutted for Craig, first and foremost. He’s been outstanding for the club in recent seasons both on and off the pitch and I’m sure he’ll be back fitter and stronger than ever.

“We’re fortunate enough to have top class medical and sports science teams and facilities at Hearts so Craig will get the best possible care as he rests up and then starts his rehabilitation.”

Halkett has played just eight times for Hearts this season having struggled with a hamstring problem before the latest cruel injury blow.
