Hearts' Craig Wighton could be Premiership bound as loan chase hots up for out of contract forward

Hamilton are keen to take Craig Wighton on loan for the rest of the season.

The Hearts striker is free to talk to other clubs after the arrival of French striker Armand Gnanduillet pushed him down the pecking order and facing more time on the sidelines.

Arbroath want him at Gayfield for another loan spell after a successful stint last season.

But the offer of Premiership football from Accies may prove more appealing to the former Dundee starlet.

Brian Rice wants to add more firepower to his squad as they attempt to beat the drop - something they’ve become experts at over the years despite being tipped annually for a return to the second tier.

Robbie Neilson is prepared to let the forward discuss his longer term future with his Tynecastle contract up in the summer, and Wighton reluctant to finish the season with such uncertainty hanging over his future.

However, Neilson insisted that if a switch isn’t sorted out before the transfer window closes on Monday, then Wighton will remain part of his squad for the remainder of the Championship season and will get the chance to contribute, even if it’s not from the start.
