Hearts considering Barrie McKay move as former Scotland cap 'keen' on Tynecastle free transfer

Hearts are reported to be considering a free transfer move for ex Rangers winger Barrie McKay.

The 26-year-old has had a tough time of it since leaving Ibrox back in 2017 and last played for Fleetwood Town in League One.

He initially joined Nottingham Forest before signing for Swansea the following season, where he struggled to make an impact.

Despite a promising start, questions were raised about his attitude and he has spent the last 18 months on loan at Fleetwood before his release earlier in the summer.

He's on the lookout for a new club and the Edinburgh Evening News report that Hearts are interested in bringing him back to Scotland.

And it's claimed Hearts would be 'high on his list of priorities' if he does decide to move back to his homeland.

Robbie Neilson has been determined to add pace and flexibility to his attack which led him to land Ben Woodburn on loan from Liverpool.

However Josh Ginnelly and Gary Mackay-Steven remain his only other wingers and McKay could provide another wide option.

McKay was once one of the hottest prospects at Ibrox but his move south didn't work out.

Still just 26, however, he could revitalise his career back in the Scottish Premiership and may even have ambitions of a Scotland return five years on from his first and only cap.
