Hearts complete loan signing of goalkeeper Ross Stewart from Livingston

Hearts have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ross Stewart on a loan deal from Livingston.

The 25-year-old stopper has inked a temporary deal until January 2021 and will compete with Craig Gordon and Zdenek Zlamal for the gloves at Tynecastle.

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson was keen to bolster his goalkeeping ranks after third choice Colin Doyle was allowed to join Kilmarnock on loan until the start of the winter window.

Stewart joined Livi from St Mirren in 2018 but has been restricted to just 11 appearances since then and spent part of last season on loan at Queen of the South.

The Motherwell academy product slipped behind Rangers loanee Robbie McCrorie and former Sunderland youngster Max Stryjek in the pecking order at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

Neilson said he was delighted to bring in competition for his experienced pair ahead of the Scottish Championship season kicking off in October.

“I’m happy we’ve managed to get someone with Ross’ experience in so quickly," he told the Hearts website.

“With Colin Doyle going out to Kilmarnock and Harry Stone about to undergo minor surgery, it was imperative that we bring in another goalkeeper to work with Craig Gordon and Bobby Zlamal because before you know it, we’ll be back playing competitive games.

“Ross has played both top fight and Championship football so he has experience at good levels and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition to the squad.”

Stewart becomes Hearts second signing this week after the club secured the signature of winger Jordan Roberts on a free transfer.
