Hearts captain Steven Naismith learns Scotland fate as Steve Clarke names squad for double header

Steven Naismith hasn't been named in the Scotland squad for the upcoming Nations League double-header against Israel and the Czech Republic.

The 33-year-old was always likely to miss out this time around given his lack of recent game time. The Hearts skipper hasn't played since Scottish football was shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak in March.

The Daily Record reported this morning, however, that Naismith has spoken to national team boss Steve Clarke and offered his services in the case of an emergency.

The Scotland squad was announced shortly before 1pm with QPR striker Lyndon Dykes and Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, currently on loan at Livingston, handed their first call-ups.

Former Hearts 'keeper Jon McLaughlin and ex Hibs midfielder John McGinn are also included.

The full squad is as follows: David Marshall, Robby McCrorie, Jon McLaughlin, Liam Cooper, Declan Gallagher, Scott McKenna, Stephen O'Donnell, Liam Palmer, Andy Robertson, Greg Taylor, Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong, Ryan Christie, John Fleck, Ryan Jack, John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Kenny McLean, Scott McTominay, Oliver Burke, Lyndon Dykes, James Forrest, Oli McBurnie, Lawrence Shankland.

Scotland face Israel first on September 4 before taking on the Czech Republic three days later, on Monday September 7.
