Hearts boss Robbie Neilson makes penalty decision after Liam Boyce double blunder

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has backed Liam Boyce to continue taking penalties despite the Northern Ireland striker's double blunder on Tuesday night.

The Scottish Championship side eased past Alloa 3-0 with goals from Michael Smith, Andy Halliday and Peter Haring.

Boyce should have been on the scoresheet himself but missed twice from the spot.

The former Cliftonville forward saw his first effort saved by Neil Parry before blazing the retake over the bar.

Neilson says he has no concerns over Boyce continuing to take penalties for the club, saying the 29-year-old knows how to handle the pressure.

“Liam willl be staying on penalties. You can miss them when you’re 3-0 up, it’s when it’s 1-1 in a derby, a Scottish Cup semi-final that the big dogs turn up," the Hearts boss said.

“That’s what he did, so he’ll be staying on them for next time.”

Boyce has proved his mettle from the spot in recent weeks.

He scored the decisive penalty in Northern Ireland's shootout win over Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Euro play-off semi-finals.

And he scored from the spot in extra-time as Hearts beat Hibernian in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup earlier this month.
