Hearts boss Robbie Neilson hit with notice of complaint over John Beaton tirade

Robbie Neilson has been slapped with an SFA notice of complaint after unleashing on referee John Beaton following Hearts defeat to Raith Rovers last weekend.

The Tynecastle boss was furious over a penalty awarded to the Fife side in Gorgie and claimed the visitors’ third goal should have been ruled out for a hand ball on the line.

He stormed onto the pitch to confront the official after the final whistle, resulting in Beaton brandishing a red card.

Neilson took aim at the decision in his post match interview, but his actions raised the ire of the governing body’s disciplinary panel.

He has now been handed a notice of complaint by the association which could land him a two-game touchline ban.

Speaking after the final whistle, Neilson said: “We lose a penalty that in my opinion is not a penalty and then the third one is a handball on the line that you hope the linesman is going to see but it wasn’t to be.

“Part of the reason I got a second yellow was that I tried to speak to the referee and you’re not allowed to speak to him.

"Most referees you’re allowed to speak to but he just tells you to get out of his face. If you don’t get out of his face then he yellow cards you.”

Neilson was cautioned after the 90 minutes when Hearts were shocked by Alloa in the Betfred Cup earlier this season.

On that occasion he marched onto the pitch to quiz Gavin Duncan over his call to hand Alan Trouten the chance to give Wasps the winner.

However, he was only booked for his reaction to that match.
