Hearts boss Robbie Neilson discovers SFA fate after Raith Rovers flashpoint

Robbie Neilson has been handed a touchline ban after his red card against Raith Rovers last month.

The Tynecastle boss was summoned to an SFA hearing after he was sent off in the 3-2 defeat to the Championship side.

Neilson was cautioned as he complained about John Beaton's decision to award Raith a penalty as Manny Duku made it 2-1 for the visitors.

He continued to vent his anger moments later as he felt Reghan Tumilty used his hand in the build-up to their third goal and was given his marching orders by the ref at the full-time whistle.

And the Hearts boss has been hit an immediate two-game touchline ban following an SFA hearing on Thursday. He will miss the fixtures Greenock Morton and Inverness Caldonian Thistle.

Neilson has also been given a further two-match suspended ban, which will be applied if he makes any further transgressions.

Meanwhile, John Souttar has made his long-awaited return to training as he steps up his recovery from an Achilles injury.

And Neilson insists he will take his time with his centre-half to avoid another relapse like the defender suffered in the summer.

He said: “I think it’ll be a couple of months before he can come back. The original plan was to get him back for pre-season and he’s hopefully ahead of schedule, but I don’t want to put a date on it.

“We pushed really hard to get him back in with the group as quick as possible.

“It was just two or three minutes at the start then building it up and now he’s up to about 20 or 30 minutes with the group.

“That’s really important because the last time he ruptured his Achilles, he had to do his rehab on his own and he found it very very difficult to get back, then he had a set back.

“So fingers crossed this time he gets back to 100 per cent fit and we can see John Souttar back on the pitch where he belongs.”
