Hearts boss Daniel Stendel makes shocking Hibs admission as he targets Edinburgh domination

New Hearts boss Daniel Stendel has admitted it took Paul Heckingbottom to become Hibs manager for the Jambos' Edinburgh rivals to show up on his radar.

Heckingbottom, like German Stendel , was Barnsley boss and the Gorgie new-boy first heard of the Easter Road outfit through his appointment.

The German adapted to his new Tynecastle environment today as he was unveiled to the press and while he breezed through proceedings he admitted he's going to need a little time to get used to the Scottish accent.

He said: "My English is okay but it's very difficult to understand you - sorry!

"I hope next time it is so much better. I heard before the Scottish accent is difficult."

"When I started at Barnsley, the last manager (Paul Heckingbottom) started to work in Scotland.

"It was the first time I heard of Hibs . It was really the first time. I hope that we can show we are the biggest team in town."

Stendel also opened-up on his style of play as he hopes to reinvigorate the struggling Jambos.

He said: “In England I said ‘counter press’ a lot of times. We want to win games and when you want to win games you need the ball.

“When we lose the ball the best thing we can do is win the ball again. This is the idea from gegenpressing and we will do it.

“Then, I hope, we have more chances and we have a good game and the people who come and watch our games like it and we have more success.”
