Hearts' Ben Garuccio out for ten months after suffering cruciate ligament injury

Hearts have been hit with yet another long term injury blow after they confirmed that left back Ben Garuccio will be out for ten months with a knee ligament injury.

The Australian tore his cruciate in training and won’t play again until early 2020 at the earliest.

It’s just the latest in a long line of injuries at Tynecastle this season. Christophe Berra, John Souttar, Uche Ikpeazu and Steven Naismith – twice – have all missed significant portions of the season, often at the same time, with injuries that kept them out for months.

It leaves Hearts short of options at left back, with Demetri Mitchell already out for the season and Michael Smith still a couple of weeks away from fitness.

Aidy White won’t be rushed as he continues to build himself back up although youngster Bobby Burns could slot in, as could Jake Mulraney.

"We got the bit of bad news on Wednesday,” said Craig Levein . “Ben Garuccio has torn his cruciate in training. So he will be out for 10 months or so.

"His foot got caught in the turf and twisted, just a complete accident."
