Hearts and Rangers' reconstruction plans fail but 14-10-10-10 structure is back on the table

League reconstruction proposals put forward by Hearts and Rangers have reportedly failed to gather enough support.

However, clubs are now being asked if they would be in favour of a permanent 14-10-10-10 set-up.

According to BBC Scotland, the plans put forward by Rangers, and reportedly backed by Hearts, for a 14-14-18 structure with Old Firm B teams in the bottom tier won't be happening.

Club bosses have been locked in virtual talks for much of Wednesday, with the Ibrox club presenting their "innovation paper".

The proposal would see the Old Firm clubs buy-in to the bottom tier in order for their B teams to be permitted access, while also making a commitment to buy a certain number of tickets per game.

But this is now seemingly off the table, and Scottish clubs are now being asked to inform the SPFL if they would back the 14-10-10-10 system – which would save Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer from relegation – by 10am on Monday. If it receives enough backing then a formal vote will take place.

Under the plan Inverness Caley Thistle would also be promoted to the top flight, while Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers would enter League Two.

Ann Budge has previously indicated Hearts could pursue legal action should they be ejected from the top flight.

And it emerged earlier this week that the Jambos may have been offered some hope after the French courts blocked relegation from Ligue 1.
