The legal case against the SPFL from relegated pair Hearts and Partick Thistle will be heard in court on Tuesday.
A video conference will take place from 10am at Edinburgh's Court of Session.
The SPFL had until 5pm on Thursday to reply to their petition but formally responded on Wednesday evening.
That set the wheels in motion for the hearing to be organised and the process will continue early next week.
Hearts and Partick argue their relegations from the Premiership and Championship divisions respectively are unfair after the season was ended early due to Covid-19.
They want to reverse all SPFL relegations in 2019/20 - their own plus that of Stranraer - with the added effect of cancelling the promotions of league winners Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers.
If that cannot be achieved they seek around £10million in compensation for the loss of revenue as a result of being sent down during the crisis.
Clubs would have avoided the drop had SPFL members approved plans put forward by Tynecastle chair Ann Budge for a 14-10-10-10 league reconstruction model but that was denied in an indicative vote.
