Hearts and Hibs target under Celtic observation after trial as Premiership rivals continue scouting

Rumoured Hearts and Hibernian target Thomas Robert will be kept under observation by Celtic after a two-week trial at Lennoxtown as the Glasgow side prepare to monitor the French midfielder for the remainder of the campaign.

The 20-year-old has shone for Airdrie as the Diamonds standout performer in League One, attracting scouts from north and south of the border to the Penny Cars Stadium.

The former Montpellier trainee, whose dad Laurent helped Newcastle United reach the Champions League as a player, quit the French club last year to move to Lanarkshire in the summer.

He scored four times in 14 games before the season was put on pause, but joined up with first team training at Lennoxtown in the interim.

The Parkhead side decided against making a move immediately, despite Airdrie boss and former Hibs captain Ian Murray bracing for a winter bid.

However, Football Insider reports they will continue to keep tabs on his progress when the SPFL lower leagues resume next weekend.

The promotion-chasing Diamonds face a trip to Dumbarton on their return to action after the mid-season pause caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The Capital duo are among a clutch of sides monitoring Robert’s progress, with Aberdeen and Dundee United along with several English clubs staying in the loop.

Celtic have already signed Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Liam Shaw to a pre-contract deal, but could face a legal claim from the Yorkshire club over the agreement.
