Hearts and Hibs fired warning by Graeme Shinnie with Aberdeen 'back in the fight' for Europe

Graeme Shinnie has fired a warning to Hearts and Hibs as he roared: 'We are back in the fight for Europe'.

Aberdeen have won three of their last four outings with a heavy defeat at Celtic the only blip in a recent resurgent run of form under caretaker boss Barry Robson. Those results have brought the manager-less Dons within seven points of Robbie Neilson's side in third and just two behind Lee Johnson and Co in fourth.

The fight for a spot in Europe next season looks like it will go right down to the wire and Aberdeen can draw in the Jambos with the duo going head to head this weekend at Pittodrie. The Reds have gone through a bad spell pre-Jim Goodwin's sacking but they are back in the battle but will not get ahead of themselves.

Shinnie said: "We have gone through a bad spell but we are back in the fight for European places which is very good.

“We are not going to get ahead of ourselves as there is still a long way to go. However results have been good to get us back into it.

"We need to continue to keep winning games and climbing. We are in the business end of the season and are looking forward to Hearts."

Hearts enjoyed a European adventure earlier this season in the Europa Conference League group stages after elimination in the Europa League play-off round. In total the Tynecastle side had eight Euro outings with all eyes on securing another journey for next season with their Scottish Cup bid over after defeat to Celtic.

Neilson said: “For us now, it is all eyes on the league and securing that third position. We have a huge game against Aberdeen next weekend to hopefully try and extend our lead before we go into the international break.”
