The SPFL Trust Trophy draw took place this afternoon and Hearts and Hibs B learned their first and second round opponents.
The Hibees second string will host League Two Elgin City but the more intriguing tie produced a capital derby of sorts as the Jambos were drawn against Edinburgh City.
Given the bizarre way the League Cup sections are split, the Citizens are unable to draw either of their neighbours in the group stages, so this competition is the next best thing.
And an all-Edinburgh tie was thrown up in the first round. The ties will take place in the midweek of the 10/11 of August, although it;s as yet unclear whether a return to Meadowbank can happen in time for the hosts, who will otherwise play the game at Ainslie Park.
Both B teams know who awaits them in the second round as well should they prevail.
Hibs will welcome Dunfermline over the bridge if they beat Elgin, while Hearts or Edinburgh City will travel to Hamilton.
The second round ties will take place on the weekend of 4 and 5 September.
