Hearts and Balls charity for injured rugby players to host Glasgow festival as a thanks for £50k donations

A charity for injured rugby players is hosting a celebratory festival in Glasgow as a thank you to supporters, who have raised a whopping £50,000 in only six months.

Donations have been coming in fast and heavy from local clubs with the Glasgow Warriors raising £15,000 at their annual dinner and the GHK rugby club raising over £24,000 for the charity.

This Saturday will see ambassadors, ex-players, clubs, businesses and supporters of Heart+Balls all flock to Balgray Playing Fields to celebrate what has been a great first half of the year.

Entertainment will be provided by former Scotland international player and BBC broadcaster, John Beattie, who will be playing live music with his band. John is also one of the many rugby player’s whose career was cut short by an injury.

One ambassador, Jim Taylor, who was paralysed after breaking his neck in a game, said: “The support the charity gives to injured players is absolutely life changing, I can speak from experience. On behalf of the charity, I would like to say a huge thanks to every single person who has donated, rowed, ran or done anything whatsoever to support.

“I can’t wait to catch up with everyone as we welcome back supporters to Balgray for the second time.”

All tickets include the cost of food and entertainment throughout the night, with all the profits going towards the initiative to support former players who suffer the debilitating long lasting effects of injury - you can grab yours through Eventbrite .

And it doesn't stop there for Heart+Balls, with hopes that the charity will surpass the £100k fundraising mark this year. Good luck to all involved!
