'Heartless' vandals trash toddlers' toys during raid at Govanhill playgroup

An early years play group in Govanhill have slammed the "heartless" vandals who damaged a shed they use to house toys and equipment used by local toddlers during a break-in.

The incident occurred at the Daisy Chain Early Years Project, which operates play-based interventions for local kids out of the Glasgow Elim Pentecostal Church on Inglefield Street.

No items were stolen from the metal shed, although the play group now require to source a more secure container - costing around £400 - as a result of the damage sustained.

Having discovered the damage on Tuesday morning, they tweeted: "We’re sad this morning to find our container has been broken into and items stolen.

"The items are used by Govanhill’s youngest children and we hope whoever is responsible realises they are literally stealing from toddlers - it’s heartless and unfair."

Police confirmed that they responded to a report of the break-in.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report around 10:15am on Tuesday October 27 that a shed was broken into at the annexe to Glasgow Elim Pentecostal Church on Inglefield Street.

"Nothing is reported to have been stolen."
