Heartless vandals smash memorial bench to pieces at Ayrshire cemetery

Destructive yobs have smashed a memorial bench at a grave to pieces.

Police say the seat at Riccarton Cemetery has "significant sentimental" importance to a family.

Vandals attacked the bench at the Hurlford grave some time between Wednesday, April 21 and Sunday, May 2 with cops now hunting those responsible.

Police Constable Scott Sclater, from the locality policing team at Kilmarnock police office, said: "We are carrying out enquiries in relation to the reported incident which occurred in Riccarton Cemetery, Hurlford.

“The memorial bench has significant sentimental and personal importance to the family and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to this incident.

"We would urge anyone nearby with CCTV, Ring door bells or dash cam to check their footage and to please contact police with information that would assist our enquiries.

"Anyone who may have seen anything is also encouraged to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the PC Scott Sclater at Kilmarnock police office by calling 101 and quoting incident number 3202 of May 5.
