Heartless thieves left mum feeling 'violated' after 'stealing pram and gifts' before Christmas

A mum says she feels "hugely violated" after heartless thieves stole her pram and Christmas presents from her porch and car with just days to go until Christmas.

Dr Sam Mundie had hoped to have everything ready for the festive season but now needs to replace presents and a pram after she realised they had vanished on December 20.

The mum-of-three, from Earley, later realised that other items had been stolen from her car as well as some bird feeders, which were a gift made of Willow, in mind of her new baby daughter's name.

Speaking to BerkshireLive, she said: "I went to put the baby in the pram, she was in the car seat and I needed to post some cards.

"Stupidly, I've been leaving my pram base on my porch for three years."

Sam then realised that the porch base was gone and went to look around her road in Earley for it.

She added: "I ended up wandering around the streets wondering if someone had gotten a bit too merry and picked it up and thrown it in someone's garden, so I walked up and down the street for 45 minutes.

Later on in the day, Sam noticed her bird feeders had also gone and her iPod and Ray-bans were missing from her car.

She was left feeling "absolutely devastated."

"The pram base is clearly for a baby, who would steal from a baby, three days before Christmas?" she said.

Sam said that "in another time" she "might not have been so worried", but there have been some "really aggressive" burglaries in Earley recently which have shocked those living in the area.

Despite this, Sam was shocked at what happened as she lives "far down a side street" and "it's not the sort of place you drive through."

The mother-of-three also said she sees herself as fairly "hardy" but that with lockdown and children she hasn't been alone in the house "for years".

Sam was "quite excited" that next week her husband was taking the three children away to his parents, but "now it feels like it's completely ruined."

"I'm very nervous now," she said.

She said: "I feel hugely violated. It's an awful feeling.

"I was in a massive amount of shock yesterday and now I'm just furious."

The busy mother explained that she doesn't have time to think about what needs replacing, especially given how close Christmas is and also said that it's not just a new pram base she'll need to buy but a new car seat and top as well to fit onto the aligning pram base.

"If I get a new pram, I'll need to get a new car seat and pram top and whatever else fits it."
