Heartless robbers pinch jewellery worth thousands from family in Christmas Day raid

Jewellery worth thousands of pounds was stolen from a house on Christmas Day.

Now a Biggar family have spoken out for the first time after the December 25 raid on their home which left them “extremely distraught”.

Christine, 73, and Robert Leishman 74, who live on Fleming Way with their 40 year-old son Robert, went out on Christmas Day to spend dinner with their other son.

They left at 2.30pm for a few hours, but on their return they found that sentimental jewellery had been snatched from their home. Robert explained: “My wife Christine went up to the bedroom and wondered why clothes that she had put past were lying over the bedroom.

“She then discovered that lots of our jewellery was stolen, and other goods.

“It was horrible to see her in that state.

“My son Robert, who has Down’s syndrome, has also been extremely frightened by the incident and couldn’t sleep that night.

“Not to mention the sentimental value of all the items missing.

“Robert had a ring that he loved, his puzzle ring that I had bought him in Singapore.

He keeps asking if the police have brought him his puzzle ring back.

“My wedding ring and engagement ring have also been taken and bracelets of Christine’s.

“We just want our things back as these have extreme sentimental value to us.”

Police are now hunting those responsible and are keen to speak to anyone who can help them with their investigation.

Constable Alex Burns of Larkhall Police Station said: “I would appeal to the community of Biggar and the surrounding area for any person who may have information about this incident or the property that was taken to get in touch to help with our investigation.”

And he added: “This incident has had a profound impact on the family and we will continue to investigate and identify whoever is responsible.”

If you can help please contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2047 of Friday, December 25, 2020, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
