Heartless gang steal €200,000 from pensioner in Portrane, North Dublin

Gardai are on the hunt for a group of heartless thieves who sped off with around €200,000 belonging to a pensioner.

The gang broke into the 76-year-old's home in Portrane on May 17 before taking a safe from a garage containing the cash.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardai in Swords are investigating a burglary that occurred in a house in Portrane, Co. Dublin on the 17 of May 2019 at 9.30am.

"A sum of money was stolen in this burglary. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing,"

According to the Mail, the horrible robbery was carried out by a highly sophisticated gang who are believed to have monitored the house.

Nothing else was taken from the house.

The two homeowners are pensioners and were not at home when the burglars struck.

The paper reported that a detectives are chasing a Volkswagon estate that they believed was used in the robbery.

It is also believed that the gang responsible are a traveller crime group who are believed to have hit a number of areas in recent weeks.
