Heartless 'fake gardener' from Musselburgh conned unsuspecting Edinburgh pensioners out of thousands

A 'fake gardener' who offered to landscape older people's gardens, taking money for them as a deposit first, before failing to come back and carry out the work - has been jailed in Edinburgh.

Swindler Walter Brown from Musselburgh took deposits from three pensioners totalling thousands of pounds, but then failed to return, leaving them out of pocket, reports the East Lothian Courier .

He conned £750 from Edinburgh pensioner Terence Anthony, he also took £1,000 from another man and a further £670 from Patricia West, both also from Edinburgh.

Brown, of Whitehill Mains Farm, had previously been convicted for fleecing a fourth person out of £16,450, again for work that was never carried out at his Edinburgh home- Brown was paying that sum back at a rate of £1000.

Last week, solicitor Victoria Good told Edinburgh Sheriff Court that her client’s “business had got on top of him and he could not fulfil the work” he had promised to complete.
