Heartfelt tributes paid to popular Airdrie Academy teacher

Warm tributes have been paid to a much-loved staff member at Airdrie Academy who died this week.

English teacher Keri Frew sadly passed away on Thursday, at the age of 50.

Airdrie Academy head teacher Martin Anderson honoured Keri’s “warmth and compassion” for pupils, her assistance with their creative work and her valued impact at the school.

He said: “The entire school community is shocked and saddened at the sudden and untimely passing of our colleague Keri, who died unexpectedly on Thursday.

“Keri was a valued member of the English department and her contribution to the work of the school will be sorely missed.

“She was a passionate advocate for Scottish literature and many pupils over the years benefited from her knowledge and expertise in this area.”

Mr Anderson continued: “Keri enjoyed nurturing the creative talents of the pupils and helped many pupils submit work for competitions and anthologies of creative writing.

“She always had time and a place for pupils who find school challenging, and her warmth and compassion for these pupils was considerable.

“As a colleague, Keri’s wit, humour and intellect will be missed, as will her friendship to many.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with Keri’s friends and family at this incredibly sad time.”
