The family and friends of a man who died after falling from a building in Rochdale town centre have paid tribute to him.

Cameron McGowan, 26, tragically passed away after falling from a building near the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre on Monday (January 18).

His death is expected to be subject to an inquest at Rochdale Coroners' Court.

Cal said Cameron, who lived in Rochdale, worked at the JD Sports Warehouse at Kingsway and loved going to the gym.

In a tribute penned to his brother, Cal said: "To my younger brother Cameron.

"I can’t believe you’re not with us anymore. I’m so saddened that you felt you needed to take this way to get out of the pain you were in.

"I wish I could have helped you see that you are so loved and that the world was so much better with you in it.

"I love you so much and will forever keep you in my heart.

"Until we meet again."

Cameron's friend Danny Tiff said: "Cam, I can't believe it. I can't believe you're gone.

"The person that you were to me, the personality that shone.

"You were always there to joke with, and make me laugh each day.

"There's so much that I'm feeling, and so much that I could say.

"The thing that hurts me the most inside is how you were so kind, and yet you were the last to say what was happening in your mind.

“I love you more than words, my friend. And the person that I am is all because of knowing you, my friend, my brother, Cam.”

Another close friend of Cameron's, Dec Fallon, said his friend was one of the 'kindest, loveliest and strongest lads he had known'.

"I honestly wish I could have spoken to him for one last time, for anyone that knows Cam, it will hit hard just because of what an amazing soul he was", Dec said.

Following the incident, a police cordon was in place near the Rochdale Exchange shopping centre.

A walkway was taped off near Butterworth's with police officers standing guard at the scene.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 9.10am on Monday 18 January police attended an incident where a man had fallen from Exchange Square on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale.

"The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Initial enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the incident.

"We mobilised a number of resources including an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an advanced paramedic and an air ambulance", the spokesperson said.

"We haven't taken anyone to hospital."
