Heartfelt tributes paid to Cork woman who tragically died after being struck by lorry

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a “lovely lady” who sadly lost her life in a tragic road accident earlier this week.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Eileen Kennedy, who died after she was struck by an articulated lorry in Cork on Thursday afternoon.

Eileen, known to many as ‘Punk’, was from the Mayfield area, but was a native of Errill in Co Laois.

“Unexpectedly following an accident,” her death notice read.

“Beloved daughter of Sally and the late Joe and loving sister of Michael, Ann, Catherine and Josephine.

“Sadly missed by her heartbroken mother and siblings, her partner Martin, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law John, Josephine’s partner Robbie, Michael’s partner Bernie, Ann’s partner Noel, aunts, uncles, relatives and a large circle of friends.”

Her funeral will take place privately, with the family asking that any donations are given to Cork Penny Dinners.

Online condolences described Eileen, who was in her 50s, as “a lovely lady”.

“Cork has lost a great free spirit who added an abundance of colour and wit to day to day life in the city,” read one message.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the crash that happened at the junction of the North Ring Road and the Old Youghal Road, outside Mayfield Business Park at around 4.50pm on Thursday, December 10.

Anyone who was in the area between 4.30pm and 5.00pm and has any information or footage (including dash cam) should contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021 455 8510 or any Garda Station.
