Heartfelt public donate over €60,000 to help family of tragic toddler Sophia Melnychuk

Over €60,000 has been raised for the heartbroken family of a three-year-old girl who was tragically killed after being hit by a bus in Co Tipperary.

The fundraiser - Sophia’s Farewell GoFundMe -  was initially started to cover the cost of the funeral for Sophia Melnychuk and to offer support to her heartbroken parents Andriy and Mariya, who are originally from Ukraine, and her brothers Maxsum and Denis.

But within a matter of hours, it had raised more than ten times that due to the generosity of the local community and people nationwide.

Over 2,000 people have donated to  the fundraiser so far with more than 100 people leaving condolences messages on the page.

Tragic Sophia was hit by a bus at Castle Heights on the Portlaw Road out of Carrick-on-Suir on Tuesday afternoon.

The shocked bus driver was treated by emergency services at the scene.

Sophia’s funeral details have not yet been released but it is understood she will be buried within the coming days.

Meanwhile, shocked and heartbroken friends and neighbours continue to pay tribute to little Sophia with some saying they will “miss her happy face”.

“Remembering little Sophia and thinking of you all at this difficult time. We will miss her happy face here in Castle Heights,” one person wrote.

Another person added: “Sophia, such a happy smiling little girl that we will all miss in Castle Heights. You will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts.”

Gardaí continue to appeal for any witnesses or any road users who may have dash-cam footage from the time of the collision.

Clonmel Garda Station can be contacted on 052 6177640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
