Heartbroken woman shares photos of uncle who was left fighting for his life following serious assault in Dublin city centre

The niece of a man who was brutally attacked in Dublin city on Friday evening has released photos of him in hospital.

The man, who is in his 40s, sustained life-threatening injuries following a serious assault by a "lone male" at Prices Lane in Dublin 2 and was taken to St James's Hospital following the attack.

Lorna Brophy shared the pictures of her uncle on Facebook on Tuesday night "to give people an insight of what type of animals are out and about on a Saturday night".

She said that her uncle, Jason, was in Temple Bar when he was violently attacked by a man "for no reason".

Man, 44, taken to hospital with life threatening injuries following horrific 'serious assault' in Dublin city centre on Friday night

Lorna said: "This is my poor uncle Jason. He's 46 and he's literally tiny, only 6 stone.

"He got attacked in Temple Bar last Saturday by a man for nothing. He broke his jaw, he has to have a jaw operation when he can manage breathing by himself.

"He was taken into intensive care and the whole family is heartbroken over it.

"My family and friends who do know jayo in the area knows he is so harmless. To the dirty pig who done this you will get your karma!! Police are also involved hope everyone shares this and the horrible low life person sees what he done !!!

Gardai are currently investigating the incident and said that: "The suspect in this investigation made his way onto Aston Quay near its junction with Bedford Row, he removed items of his clothing and appears to have laid down on the street.

"His behaviour attracted public attention and investigating Gardaí understand that this man may have been recorded on mobile phones."

Two people have contacted Dublin Live about the attack and believe to have seen the alleged attacker in question.

One person said that they saw a man on Westmoreland Street acting strangely on Friday night around the time that the attack took place.

They said: "He had a zip jacket on and was just going completely mad. He was screaming at people running around mad aggressive.

"He kept zipping down his jacket showing his chest. This was close to 11pm. A few minutes later, I saw 5/6 public order unit lads sprinting down Temple Bar.

"If it's the same person, I saw him being barricaded out of KFC screaming and battering the door.

Another person told Dublin Live that they know someone who has seen footage of the attack.

They said: "I know a person who has seen the CCTV. The footage apparently shows a man in one of the side alleys in Temple Bar.

"He took off his shirt and then he started running on his hands and legs.

"He was recreating the scene from the move Split practically according to the person who saw the footage.

"He started jumping on the man's scull, the attacker was jumping on his head. The ambulance came and took the man then."
