Heartbroken uncle pays tribute to Jaden Moodie

Nottingham teen Jaden Moodie was a 'happy young lad', his heartbroken uncle has said.

The 14-year-old was stabbed to death in London, just months after moving to the city.

Josh Grant, who runs a painting and decorating company in Nottingham, said Jaden, formerly of Arnold, was "a happy young lad" who "wanted the good things in life."

Mr Grant, whose son used to play with Jaden, said he had moved from Arnold to London around six months ago to be closer to his grandma.

He left Arnold, where he was a pupil at Redhill Academy, with his mum and three sisters.

He said: "He liked playing football, going out with his mates on their push bikes and he loved his computer. I used to take my son and Jayden out to the park together. He was a cheeky chap.

"He used to talk to anyone and I think he got involved with the wrong people (in London).

"Teenagers go through bad spells but he was a good kid. He was never in trouble in Nottingham."

Mr Grant said the family are going to London this weekend to be closer to his mum, who has been left distraught by the news of her son's death.

"I have had a lot of messages from people, a lot of people knew him, a lot of people from Arnold. It is really sad. We are really trying to support each other."

A Met Police investigation was launched after officers and paramedics were called to Bickley Road, in Leyton, where the incident occurred.

It has been established by detectives he was riding a moped that had been involved in a collision with a car.

It is believed that three males got out of the car and then stabbed Jayden before returning to the vehicle and driving off.

Despite efforts by paramedics, Jaden died at 7.09pm on January 8.

The black Mercedes B Class believed to be involved in the incident was recovered in the Carlisle Road area of Leyton on Wednesday afternoon.

No arrests have yet been made.

Anyone with information can call the Metropolitan Police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with information."
