Heartbroken tributes to 'Gabe' after teenager's tragic fall

Heartbroken tributes have been paid across Liverpool following the tragic death of a teenager.

Merseyside Police today confirmed a 15-year-old boy had died after falling from a car park in the city centre on Saturday night.

Confirmation of his death prompted an outpouring grief, with flowers and touching messages left online, near the scene of the incident and on the Waterfront.

Several of the messages paying tribute to the teenager simply read "RIP Gabe".

Emergency services had rushed to help the boy after reports of his fall on Hanover Street.

Following the news of his death, which is not being treated as suspicious, tributes sprung up across the city.

Shrines featuring floral tributes, photographs and messages were created near the car park he fell from and near the Three Graces, where mourners gathered throughout Sunday.

And dozens of ECHO readers took to social media to express their sorrow.

Laura Parker, who was staying in a hotel close to the scene, wrote on Facebook: "So very sad, we were staying in the Novotel and came back from dinner to the police and ambulance outside.

"Heartbreaking at such a young age his whole life ahead of him. RIP to this young boy and condolences to his family and friends, can’t even begin to imagine the pain and grief they’ll be going through right now."

Many echoed Laura's sentiments and offered their best wishes to the family of the boy as well as revealing their sadness over what had happened.

Amanda Seville wrote: "Absolutely devastating for his family, especially his parents, unbelievable heartbreak and pain, so sad."

Nicky Brown said: "This is heartbreaking, devastating for his poor family my heart goes out to you all. RIP young man."

And Deb Underhill wrote: "He went to the same primary school as my daughter. My thoughts are with the family at this unbelievably difficult time. Poor boy, may he rest in peace and may the family find peace at this difficult time."

Jennifer Povey said "It’s so hard on teenagers right now. So heartbreaking" while Nickie Jones added "Bless his little heart. Thoughts are with all his family and friends. Hope he rests in paradise."

Within hours of police confirming the boy's death more than 200 comments had been left on the ECHO's Facebook page as people expressed their sadness.

The news came after emergency services were called to Hanover Street at around 8.25pm on Saturday following reports a male had fallen from a car park.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "The death is not believed to be suspicious and a file has been sent to the coroner.

"Next of kin have been spoken to and specialist officers are supporting the family at this tragic time.

"Formal identification is still to take place."
