Heartbroken tributes paid to teen crash victim as police release name

Heartbroken tributes have been paid to a teenager who tragically died in a car collision.

Phillip Plews, aged 17, was killed in the crash on the A67 on February 5.

In a tribute released on February 9, his devastated family said: “If our love could have saved you my boy, you would have lived forever. We love you all the world.”

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident in Darlington at 7.30pm, Teesside Live reports.

The one-vehicle crash involved a white transit van, which Phillip was a passenger in.

The driver, who was taken to hospital for treatment along with a second passenger, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been questioned and released under investigation while enquiries continue.

The road was closed for several hours while officers investigated the incident.

Dozens of balloons and flowers are tied to a fence at the scene on the crash in tribute to the victim.

The tributes to "Philip" are accompanied by touching messages from family and friends.

One emotional tribute read: "Can't believe you've left us so soon. Will miss your big smile. Love you forever and always.

"Fly high handsome."

Another said: "Rest in paradise my best friend.

"Will never forget the best memories I had with you.

"I can't believe I won't see you stood at my front door again.

"Fly high my angel."

And another added: "Taken from this world far too soon. You may be gone but never forgotten."

Star shaped balloons in an array of colours have also been left at the scene - with the words: "RIP Philip" written across them.

Anyone with dashcam footage of a white Transit van being driven along the A66 from the Darlington Arena in the direction of Carmel Road South shortly before 7.30pm is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 352 of February 5.
