Heartbroken Stormzy 'cried for an hour' after secret setback during Glastonbury gig

Stormzy has admitted that he cried for over an hour after his Glastonbury set last summer.

The 26-year-old rapper labelled the iconic Somerset festival as one of the hardest things he has done in his life.

After a technical failure left him unable to hear himself through his earpiece, Stormy couldn't help but feel he had ruined the biggest performance of his lie.

The Croydon native was convinced that the milestone in his growing career was sabotaged by the untimely mishap.

And after getting off stage, Stormzy let his emotions out when he cried for over an hour.

Opening up about the experience, he told Q Magazine: "The thing about Glasto, and I've not told anybody this, but I had no sound.

"My in-ears blew after about 20 minutes, so I had no sound for the whole thing.

"It was the most difficult thing I've ever done."

The BRIT Award winner continued: "When I walked off stage, I thought I'd f**ked it. I thought it was the worst thing I'd ever done.

"I came off stage and thought I'd totally, absolutely, blown it. I was crying for, like, an hour. I was in hysterics."

Despite the fact that he felt heartbroken after the iconic set, Stormzy's spirits were lifted festival co-organiser Emily Eavis told the star that his performance had gone swimmingly.

"I thought I'd f**ked it up. I was Heartbroken, man. Heartbroken. Then after calming down for an hour, some of the people at the festival, Emily Eavis and that, gave us a memory stick to watch it back.

"And I got about halfway through and I was, like, 'S**t, I think it all went all right'."

It's been an entire year since the rap star's memorable performance on the pyramid stage.

Sadly, due to the coronairus pandemic, the iconic Glastonbury set will not make a return this year.

Instead, the BBC will mark Glastonbury 's 50th anniversary this week with a special showing of all the festival's best performances and headliners to date.

BBC Two, BBC Four and BBC iPlayer will show classic Glastonbury performances in full from some of the biggest artists in the history of the festival.

It's taking place between Thursday 25 and Monday 29 June and will include highlights from Adele in 2016, Beyoncé in 2011, David Bowie in 2000 - which will be the first time that performance has ever been broadcast in full on television - Coldplay in 2016 and Jay Z in 2008.
