His son Tam Carson paid tribute to his father who he described as his best friend.

He wrote: "Most devastating news tonight that my Dad has been killed in a motorcycle accident down in Moffat.

"I have no words for the feelings of losing my best friend. Ride easy pops.

"Til Valhalla (the hall of the fallen)."

Friends were quick to pay their respects to Lex.

One friend said: "Truly utterly devastated Tom.

"I just can't believe it. He will b greatly missed.

"Thinking of all the family."

Another added: "One of the best gone. Still can't believe I won't see him again.

"RIP Lex."

American Football team Musselburgh Magnums also paid tribute to their 'great friend'.

A post on their Facebook page read: "It is with great sadness that we have to let you know Lex Carson of the Clydesdale Colts was tragically killed in a motorbike accident near Moffat yesterday.

"Lex was a great friend of the Magnums and together we formed a strong bond at League meetings to ensure the northern clubs were treated as well as our southern cousins.

"Ever there with an opinion but always with a smile.

"Condolences to his wife Eleanor and son Tam.

"May he rest in peace."

Sergeant Billy Broatch, of Dumfries and Galloway Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr. Carson’s family at this sad time.

"I would ask that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash, or have any information that could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 3023 of 18 September, 2020.”
