Heartbroken parents of tragic teen Jessica Moore tell of 'inexpressible grief'

The heartbroken parents of a young teen that died while she was enjoying her school debs have told of their “inexpressible grief” at losing their daughter.

Jessica Moore, 19, from Bullaun, Loughrea in Co Galway while attending her school’s Debs at Gullane Hotel, in Ballinasloe.

Last night, her devastated parents had put together a statement which was posted online alongside funeral arrangements. It read: “To the inexpressible grief of her heartbroken parents Brendan  and Catherine. Cherished and much-loved sister of Cian & Ali.

“Sadly missed by her devoted grandparents Stan and Laura Moore, forever remembered by her uncles, aunts, uncles-in-law, aunts-in-law, cousins, extended family, neighbours & her many, many friends.”

Jessica’s sister Ali Moore paid tribute to her sister with photos of them together just hours before she died, saying: “The greatest. I’ll never be the same without you.”

It is understood the alarm was raised by friends of the tragic teen after she fell ill and collapsed.

Despite desperate efforts by medics, Jessica was pronounced dead at Portiuncula hospital. Officers said they are probing the circumstances and will examine the case.

A spokesman added: “Statements will be taken from other students at the event and anyone else that came in contact with Jessica.

“CCTV at the venue could also form part of the investigation.

“Clearly this is a horrific tragedy, the postmortem will answer the question what she died from so at the moment everything is just speculation.”

Jessica was a student at St Raphael’s College in Loughrea and yesterday principal Paul Cafferky paid a warm tribute to her.

He said: “We are deeply shocked and devastated at the death of Jessica.

“Our immediate concerns are for her family and for our students and staff. She was immensely talented, a very, very bright student.

“She was very mature and responsible, very sensible who came from a fantastic family and was admired and respected by everyone.”

It is understood Jessica was set to collect her Leaving Cert results today.

Local councillor Geraldine Donohue said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the Moore family at this very sad time.

“It’s a terrible tragedy, the family need the time and space to come to terms with their loss.”

Gullane Hotel refused to comment when contacted by the Irish Mirror.

A receptionist said: “We won’t be making any comment as there is an investigation underway.”
