'Heartbroken' parents of tragic Cork boy Avery James Greene, 3, ask for privacy following death

The heartbroken parents of Avery James Greene have asked for privacy after the tot's tragic death.

Little Avery James was on holidays with his mother, his two sisters and their grandparents when the awful incident happened, Cork Beo reports.

His father Eric had been due to travel out yesterday morning to join them and the tragedy is believed to have unfolded while he was en route.

The boy was discovered unconscious in the communal swimming pool by an early morning bather.

Investigators believe he may have slipped away from his grandparents and fallen in the pool at around breakfast time.

The death notice for the Mallow, Co Cork boy has been posted on RIP.ie, with funeral arrangements set to be announced at a later date.

The post reads: "Greene (Mallow) on August 13th 2019, unexpectedly in Spain, Avery James (aged 3 years), dearly loved son of Eric and Amanda and loving brother of Lucia and Robyn.

"Sadly missed by his heartbroken parents, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles extended family and friends. The family request privacy at this time please. Funeral arrangements will follow at a later date."

The little boy's grandparents run the popular Beer Garden pub in Turners Cross on the south side of Cork city.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and the Irish embassy in Madrid is assisting the family at this time.
