Heartbroken pals to hold vigil for murdered Dublin mum Lisa Thompson as gardai continue hunt for killer

Pals of murdered mum Lisa Thompson say they are sickened that another woman has died so violently — as they plan to hold a special candlelit vigil in her honour.

And locals in Ballymun say they are still puzzled by the horrific killing of Lisa in her home, in which she was stabbed up to 12 times.

Popular mum-of-two Lisa’s body was discovered at her home in the Sandyhill Court area of Ballymun by neighbours a week ago today, on Tuesday, May 10.

Now, in a bid to show solidarity with Lisa’s grieving family and friends, the heartbroken community of Ballymun will gather on Friday at 4.30pm at The Axis Centre Ballymun for a candlelit vigil in memory of Lisa.

Organised by Ballymun native Glenda Harrington with approval from Lisa’s heartbroken family, Lisa’s favourite songs will be played, balloons in her favourite colour, sky blue, will be released and a minute’s silence to remember her will be held.

“Sadly, another woman has died violently,” said Glenda. “Since Lisa’s tragic death there has been nowhere for people who knew Lisa to show their respect, to grieve, to be sad, to be angry that another woman has died a violent death.

“Lisa’s family are absolutely devastated over her death and want the vigil to go ahead. Lisa deserves dignity,” said Glenda, who works for Friends Helping Friends soup kitchen.

Glenda described Lisa, who was a former youth worker in the north Dublin suburb as “a lovely, quiet woman.” She also said there is “a lot of speculation around” about Lisa’s killing.

“People are shocked and people don’t know what to believe. Right now it should be about Lisa and remembering her,” said Glenda.

Glenda said there is a “worry that there’s a killer on the loose” as gardai continue to investigate Lisa’s murder.

“There is a worry and concern that there’s a killer on the loose, women and girls are afraid to walk on their own and hopefully whoever killed Lisa is caught sooner rather than later,” said Glenda.

Lisa’s body is expected to be released back to her family over the coming days. And as the hunt for tragic Lisa’s killer continues, gardai continue to keep an “open mind” on the motive for the gruesome killing.

Investigators are examining a number of theories into her murder.
