Heartbroken owners of fish and chip restaurant forced to close over whopping £36k energy bill

Soaring energy prices have forced a popular restaurant to close its doors. The Station Masters House, which is a fish and chip restaurant, bar and takeaway in Bingley has closed with immediate effect.

Owners Matthew and Jo Hogg came to the conclusion the Bradford business was no longer viable after their annual electric bill had spiked from £8,500 to around £36,000.

As reported by YorkshireLive, other costs were also drastically increasing such as the price of fish, chicken, beer and soft drinks. In a post on social media the owners said: "It is with sadness and regret we have to announce The Station Masters will be closed for the foreseeable future."

The post said the energy bills had 'quadrupled'. It added: "Thank you guys for your continued support. You have given us great strength over the past year and a half and we are extremely privileged to have served Bingley. We are devastated, absolutely devastated.

"It's a shame to shut the doors but we will be taking great memories away from the place."

Customers were left shocked and saddened by the news, calling the restaurant 'fantastic' and said it was a big loss to Bingley.

Restaurant manager Henry Solomon told YorkshireLive he would be moving to the couple's other business, The Brown Cow, a bar and restaurant in Bingley, along with two other staff. He said staff had wanted The Station Masters House to stay open after all the hard work they had put in but the business circumstances had led to its closure.
