Heartbroken pet owners across Leeds watched on as their “terrified” cats and dogs hid and cowered during New Year’s firework displays.
Our skies were awash with colour as we saw the back of 2021 and brought in a new start with 2022.
However, pets across Leeds started the year with a whimper rather than a bang as they hid up during many of the firework displays.

Leeds Live asked a number of pet owners whether or not their furry friends managed to cope with the noise, but predictably many did not fare so well.
Philip Grimshaw said: “My two rescued greyhounds were totally stressed out. They hate them and pant and salivate whenever they hear them. November 5th I try to get away from humanity and go away in my motorhome somewhere quiet - not always easy.”
Heather Innes added: “My cat was terrified.”

Sharon Garbutt said: “My poor Bishon was scared from about 6 o'clock until about 2 in the morning when I managed to calm him down.”
Alexea Simpson added: “We have to take our dog away for the night she’s a mess otherwise.”
Some pet lovers were keen to show off the way their pets handled the situation with some even enjoying the colourful displays.
Sean O’Halloran said: “Our beagle came outside with us while we watched the various displays.”
Amanda Allinson added: “My cat also sat and watched them and the window was open. He's a strange cat, he don't like the hoover though.”
Jamie Griffin said: “My cat just sat and watched them.”
