Heartbroken mum pleads with thieves to return her dead baby's ashes

A mother has issued a heartbreaking plea to the thieves who stole her dead baby's ashes during a robbery at the family's storage unit.

Lily Nicol lost her daughter Sa'Mya when she was just a baby in 2013, the Daily Star reports, and the family were keeping the 11-month-old's remains and other items in a storage unit while they were looking for a new home.

The storage unit in Round Rock, an Austin suburb, was broken into in December last year but an employee reassured Lily none of her possessions had been taken.

They informed her the cut locks would be replaced and Lily would not need to take any action.

The family who lived in Denver, Colorado at the time of their daughter's death moved to Texas and were staying with relatives at the time of the break in.

The baby's ashes were stolen from a storage unit in the US (KXAN)

Lily went to visit the unit on January 20 to collect their possessions as they were moving into a new house and she discovered her daughters ashes were gone.

Other valuable items had also been stolen from the family including televisions and computers.

The anguished mother said: “I noticed that we’re missing a lot of items. We lost everything, including my daughter’s ashes.

"I don’t care about the other stuff – I just want her back."
