Matt Tootle has made a vow to Notts County fans in an emotional message, following the club's relegation from the Football League.
The 28-year-old defender missed the Magpies' 3-1 defeat at Swindon Town on the final day of the League Two season which condemned them to relegation to the National League.
"I've been thinking hard about what to write on here because words aren't really enough but I think the fans deserve me to," he wrote on Twitter.
"I'm heartbroken and couldn't have imagined this ever happening.
"It's been the hardest season I've ever encountered, for so many different reasons.
"Injuries have hampered me personally and I apologise my performances were nowhere near the year before and I let myself down on that part.
"But I'll be working hard this summer to come back better and hopefully get this great club back where it belongs."
