Heartbroken man takes dog on final walk before pooch gets put down

A dog lover's heartbreaking final walk with his beloved pooch as he took him to the vets to be put down has gone viral.

Dale Thompson posted the tear-jerking footage of his pet pooch Murphy on Twitter .

The thirty second clip - which shows the dog slowly walking along the pavement - has been viewed over half a million times.

The designer said Murphy - who he had had for 14 years - had been suffering from nose and throat cancer.

Shattered Dale said: This is Murphy's 14th & last Christmas with me.

"Tragically, the cancer is now all through his nose and into his throat.

"There's nothing else I can do except make him comfortable and happy.

"Murphy walked to the vet today for the last time. He walked in with dignity, clarity and honour.

"He left this world the same way he came into it: With style, grace and happy."

"RIP my friend."

The video has been shared more than 4,500 times and been liked by more than 47,000 people from across the world.

Many people expressed their sympathies to Dale, of Toronto, Canada.

Owen Patrick said: "So sorry for you. You're lucky to have had him that long. That's getting up there for a big dog."

One Twitter user said: "This thread breaks my heart. RIP brave boy. I am sorry for your loss Dale. You were lucky to have each other."

Another added: "This is so heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. I am so utterly sorry for your loss and your pain.

"What a beautiful dog he was."

A third - called Amy - added: "Losing a doggie is one of the worst things. I sobbed every night for a week after my 18 year old went to doggie Heaven."
