Heartbroken local six-year-old makes missing reindeer poster after 'grotto' stolen from garden

A devastated East Lothian schoolgirl created a heartbreaking 'missing' poster after cruel thieves stole her family's festive garden display.

Crooks helped themselves to a reindeer decoration, along with a selection of Christmas lights, from the front garden of her home at Forth Wynd, Port Seton.

Mum Kimberley Mitchell says the whole family have been left disappointed by the incident, but six-year-old daughter Esmé has taken it particularly hard.

Kimberley told Edinburgh Live: "It's really crappy that somebody would do that. Our Christmas lights have been cut and taken, along with a sleigh with reindeer and a present. The kids are gutted."

The mum of three explained that the reindeer and sleigh are part of the Christmas story she tells her three children – Esmé, Isabella (6) and Lilly (10).

"We've got the Elf on the Shelf, Ziggy, and and we tell them that the reindeer takes him and that's how he gets the presents. We're going to need to get a new reindeer now," She added.

"Esmé is particularly upset by it. She's even created a missing poster to try and get him back."

The heartbreaking poster urges people to "please find" the reindeer adding "my heart is broken". Esme says it would be the "highlight of my day" if her festive friend is tracked down.

The cruel theft happened overnight on Sunday into Monday, and Kimberley admits she's been left baffled by the whole thing.

She said: "I have no idea why somebody would want to steal it. It's not like it's worth a lot of money. The decorations have been in our family for a while.

"Whoever has done it has cut the lights so we've had live wires exposed in the front garden. I've got three kids and a dog, so that could've been dangerous.

"It's disappointing that we didn't manage to get a photo of it. We were actually going to before it was stolen.

"I've heard that similar things have happened in Ormiston and Aberlady. It's a really crappy thing to do. What is wrong with people?"
