Leitrim woman overjoyed as she is reunited with her dog after fears pup was stolen

A Leitrim woman has told of her delight as she was reunited with her beloved dog that she feared had been stolen.

Lorraine Bohan feared that her Labrador was robbed from the front garden and issued an urgent plea for her safe return.

Lorraine Bohan said she couldn't bear to tell her two young girls that the beloved family dog, 11-year-old Holly, was gone.

The mother-of-two from Rooskey in Leitrim said Holly was out in the garden and her brother-in-law was watching over her while she went to Dublin.

On Friday a man was spotted by a neighbour of Lorraine’s getting out of a red BMW and walking up her driveway.

Lorraine feared the person took Holly and offered a reward for her return.

She told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “We are sick with worry, heartbroken.

“I haven’t told the kids yet as I know how devastated they will be.

“Holly never strays and always stays at the front door, she would never put a paw outside the front gate.

“One of the neighbours rang me and said she was driving home at 5.10pm and saw a red BMW, with a yellow registration, parked opposite our house and the guy in it was walking up our driveway.

“The only reason she rang me was because her neighbour was telling her afterwards that the same guy was trying to take his dog.

“I have been on to the guards and all the local dog pounds.

“She’s old, she’s neutered but not chipped and was wearing a brown collar when she was taken. She has a few lumps on the side of her too from old age.

“She’s such a pet, so gentle. I’m just praying nothing bad has happened to her.”

Lorraine said they are offering a reward for information that leads to Holly’s return, she concluded: “I’m hoping who ever took her realise she is nurtured and old and no good to them if they took her for breading.

“I’m offering a reward to anyone who comes forward with information leading to Holly’s safe return.”

Thankfully Lorraine was reunited with her pup on Saturday evening after a good Samaritan handed Holly into the local garda station.

She said she had 'never been so happy' to have her dog back.
