Mystery as mum dies in 'unexplained' circumstances shortly after giving birth

The devastated friend of a young mum who died shortly after giving birth has paid tribute to the "kindest, most selfless girl".

The woman, who has been named locally as Danielle Jones, was pronounced dead at hospital after she was taken there from a house in Knowle West yesterday.

The baby boy, named Danny, survived and is being cared for in hospital.

Police are now investigating the unexplained death.

A close friend of Danielle's, Emily Morley, has set up a fundraising page to help pay for Danny's upbringing.

She told The Mirror: "Danielle was the kindest most selfless girl who would have done anything for anyone.

"She was a real treasure to all that knew her and I will truly miss her."

Another friend wrote on Facebook: "Danielle touched so many hearts. I know she’ll get her send off."

Neighbours of Danielle's reported seeing a large emergency service presence by her home just before noon on Sunday.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed a woman was treated at the scene, Bristol Post reported.

"She was taken to hospital, but sadly she has died," a spokesperson said.

Yesterday, police said: "We were called by the ambulance service to attend a property in Bratton Road, Bristol, at just before midday today.

"A woman who was at the property was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, but sadly she has died.

"Her death is currently being treated as unexplained and we’re carrying out further enquiries."

Today, police confirmed the death is still being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem examination will take place as further inquiries are made.

They also confirmed the woman gave birth at the address in Knowle West and the baby survived and is being cared for.
