The heartbroken family of a Scots dad battling motor neurone disease have paid tribute to him after he sadly passed away.

Christopher Fitzsimmons, 37, lost his eight-month fight with the debilitating disease on Monday June 8 having been diagnosed last October

The talented chef, from Clydebank, was told he has less than a year to live after he struggled to lifts pots at his work.

Dad-of-one Christopher has been described as "larger than life" by his devastated loved ones.

Speaking to the Clydebank Post, his cousin Kirsty Fitzsimmons said: "Motor neurone disease stripped him of his full life.

Christopher Fitzsimmons was a talented chef who travelled all over the country (UGC)

“It stripped him of every last thing he had, apart from his speech, and even at that, he was struggling to breathe."

“But he was larger than life, loved to party, and he was witty right to the end."

Christopher was dedicated to his work and travelled all over Scotland, cooking in some of the country's finest five-star hotels.

Following his passing, his family have set up a charity drive to raise cash for MND Scotland and have already surpassed their target, with the total sitting at over £1,200.

Writing on the page, Kirsty said: "My cousin was a character and a half and that he was right to the end but you could see the pain in his eyes and that destroyed us.

"My auntie has asked that instead of flowers and cards etc could we all donate a little something to MND Scotland as they need every little bit of help to try find a cure for this disease.

"It’s evil to the core, it’s strips you to nothing at all. Let’s fight this."

Well-wishers donating money paid their own tributes, calling Christopher 'the life and soul of the party'.
