Despite battling for almost two months, he died of his injuries on July 26.

In a statement, his family said their world had been completely shattered.

“Eddie was an amazing man who was an extremely supportive and proud dad and grandad,” they said.

“His family and friends will always remember him as a gentle giant that would do anything for anyone.

“His tragic and unexpected departure has left a huge hole in our life and he will never be forgotten or replaced.”

The driver of the Fiesta sustained minor injuries and was treated in hospital.
