Heartbroken family pay tribute to 'much-loved' Leeds grandma killed after Land Rover mounts pavement

A family have shared a heartbreaking tribute after a woman died after being hit by a Land Rover.

On December 2, Rita Cuthbert was walking near The Green in Old York Road, Seacroft, before she was hit by a car which mounted the pavement. The car then crashed through a fence and went onto the Green before eventually stopping.

An air ambulance was at the scene and a huge police cordon was put in place. Rita, 82, was left with serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.

Rita's devastated family have now paid tribute to her. In a statement, they said: "Rita was a much-loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed by everyone. Rita was a popular lady who lived life to the full and was well known and loved in the local area.

"We would like to pass on our heartfelt thanks to all the members of the public and the emergency services who did everything they could to help Rita at the scene of the collision."

A man was arrested following the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Prior to hitting Rita, the Land Rover also crashed into a Toyota Aygo which was travelling up Old York Road.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. Detective Constable Lindsey Pickles of the Major Collision Enquiry Team said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances regarding the incident and continuing to appeal for witnesses.

"Anyone who saw the collision or anyone with information regarding the collision, who has not yet spoken with police is asked to contact MCET via the 101LiveChat function on the website quoting 13220664159."
