Heartbroken family organise memorial walk for children who died suddenly after tragic death of teen daughter

A heartbroken family has organised a walk in memory of its daughter and other kids who have died suddenly.

Caitlin Davis, 17, collapsed unexpectedly three years ago and died after suffering bilateral pulmonary embolism.

The bubbly teen suffered from a serious form of diabetes.

The promising student had dreams of becoming a doctor and was a star student at the FCJ School in Bunclody, Co Wexford.

Now her mum, Debbie, has organised the ‘Mile In Memory WALK’ this weekend, starting at her daughter’s school and finishing at Bunclody Golf Club.

Debbie said: “We will always love and miss her dearly and will carry on her memory through doing good in her name.

“Caitlin had type 1 Diabetes, diagnosed at 15 in the prime of her teenage life.

“After many serious hospitalisations, Cate developed a Deep Vein Thrombosis which was undiagnosed by the doctors.

“A week later Cate suffered a sudden cardiac arrest in the doctors’ rooms and was airlifted to Waterford hospital but unfortunately she died from a bilateral pulmonary edema.”

This memorial walk is in support of FirstLight, which provides crisis intervention and free professional counselling to bereaved families after a child or young person dies suddenly.

In 2017 over 2,000 children and family members received professional support from FirstLight.

The walk starts at 4pm this Saturday, with registration at 3.30pm.

For more information, call Debbie on 085-2880489.
